The other day when I was running at the gym I was watching CNN these men, who I thought were terrorists, raid a building.  I remember wondering where in the world that took place.  Little did I know that it was right here in

Nairobi.

Recently, an estimated 30 policemen, hooded, wearing orange vests, and heavily armed raided the Standard, a Kenyan newspaper, and KTN, a local TV station.

Police were ordered by “someone” in the Government to storm the printing press, burn the newspapers, dismantle equipment, and carry away computers from the television station.  Much of which was caught on surveillance cameras.

“The raids followed a running dispute between the media house and the Government over a story in the Saturday Standard alleging President Kibaki had held a secret meeting with one of his fiercest critics, former Cabinet minister Kalonzo Musyoka.”

Local Government minister Mr. Kombo said, “I believe in the freedom of the Press.  I have in the past been unhappy with irresponsible journalism.  But that irresponsible journalism is not reason to deal with the Press in such barbaric way.”

All this to let you know, that we are okay here.  We are a great distance away from these places and will be a great distance away from the upcoming demonstrations.

Pray with us for the nation of

Kenya that this disturbing event would somehow unify and solidify the present government.

In a book written by Mr. Leonard M Levy, he commented on something Thomas Jefferson wrote… “free press played an indispensable role in educating a self-governing people to govern themselves wisely.”
